Family Travel

This itinerary is available as both a mid-range and luxury trip and includes an optional and highly recommended beach holiday following your safari. It combines game viewing in highly concentrated animal viewing areas as well memorable cultural encounters. We've also hand picked accommodation with a fantastic reputation of being family friendly. At camp, children can often be found spending time with the local Masai tribes that work at the camps learning to make bows, practicing tribal dance moves or learning how to cook local dishes.

Please note that depending on the age of your children, we may recommend flying in and out of several of the game reserves to avoid tedious amounts of time in the car.

DAY 3

What to know before you go

  • There are a good variety of family-friendly safari camps and lodges, often with specific family accommodation options
  • English is widely spoken and western food is readily available
  • East Africa has very good tourism infrastructure, so relatively little time needs to be spent travelling
  • Our guides are excellent and more than happy to entertain and educate children as well as adults
  • Much of East Africa is prone to tropical diseases. We recommend visiting your local travel clinic to ensure children have proper inoculations and take malaria prophylactics if necessary.
  • Some safari activities are not suitable for younger children, such as walking safaris, gorilla and chimp trekking, canoeing or horse-riding – the age limits vary but can be as high as 16 years of age
  • Immediate access to full medical facilities may not be possible, although all properties will have first aid facilities at the minimum
