Arrival & Briefing
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a Tazama Africa representative will warmly welcome you and provide a comfortable transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Your evening is dedicated to relaxation and a comprehensive briefing with our team to ensure you are fully prepared for the adventure ahead.

Forest Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After an early breakfast, your guide and mountain crew will meet you for a final briefing. You will then drive to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, Londorossi Gate (2,250 m). After completing the park formalities, your trek begins with a gentle hike through a lush rainforest. Today's hike is designed to ease you into the climb, allowing you to enjoy the unique sights and sounds of the forest.
Upon arrival at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m), our crew will have everything ready for you. After a hot lunch, you will take an acclimatization hike to a higher point before returning to camp for a warm dinner.

A Walk Across the Plateau to Shira 1 Camp

After a filling breakfast, you will begin today's trek. As you ascend, the forest will gradually give way to moorland, offering your first magnificent views of the Shira Plateau. This gradual ascent is part of our strategy to ensure your body acclimatizes properly.
The path is relatively easy, and you will reach Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m) in the early afternoon. Here, your team will have lunch ready, and you will have plenty of time to rest, explore the nearby area, or simply relax in your tent.

A Journey Across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp

Today’s trek takes you across the beautiful Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m). The path is not difficult, allowing you to enjoy spectacular views of the African savannah below and the unique flora of Kilimanjaro. Shira 2 is the best spot on the mountain to see the majestic Mount Meru on a clear day.
Upon arrival at camp, you will have lunch and a rest before embarking on another vital acclimatization hike towards Lava Tower Camp and returning to camp. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is one of the most effective methods to prepare your body for the summit.

Climbing High to Lava Tower and Descending to Barranco Camp

This is a key day for acclimatization. You will leave Shira 2 Camp and begin the ascent to the iconic Lava Tower (4,600 m). The trek features numerous ascents and descents. While you might feel some discomfort from the altitude, it is a necessary part of the process. Your group will have lunch here to ensure your body acclimatizes to the higher elevation.
You will then descend to Barranco Camp (3,900 m), where you will see the famous Barranco Wall. Though it looks intimidating, our expert guides will reassure you that it’s a simple, non-technical scramble that you will tackle the next morning.

The Barranco Wall and a Trek to Karanga Camp

Today begins with an early start and the exhilarating climb up the Barranco Wall. Our guides are experts at navigating this section smoothly, and it’s a fun, short scramble. After reaching the top, you'll have a rest and take photos before beginning a more difficult hike to Karanga Camp.
After a couple of hours, you will complete an acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp before returning to the warmth of your camp for lunch and rest.

The Final Push to High Camp at Barafu

In the morning, after a warm breakfast, you will begin your hike to Barafu Summit Camp (4,673 m). This camp is the starting point for your final summit push. Our team will have your camp set up ahead of time, allowing you to spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing your gear. It is crucial to rest and sleep as much as possible before your night summit.

Summit Day & Descent to Millennium Camp

Your group will wake up just after midnight to begin the final ascent to the highest point of Kilimanjaro—Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). For this final push, every two climbers will be paired with a personal guide to closely monitor your well-being. The climb is a mental and physical challenge, but the reward of watching the sunrise from the "Roof of Africa" is an experience you will never forget.
After your successful summit, you will begin the long descent back to Barafu Camp for a two-hour rest before continuing to Millennium Camp (3,950 m) for the night.

Final Descent to Mweka Gate

You will receive your commemorative summit certificate at our office and be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha for a well-deserved hot shower and a celebratory dinner.

Departure
